Therapy in Urdu

Urdu-Speaking Therapist in Milton, Ontario

Therapy in Urdu (اردو) for children, teens, adults and parents, in person in Milton or virtually across Ontario.

Some things are easier to say in the language you grew up with. Feelings, family dynamics, faith and the words your parents used can lose something in translation, and having to explain your culture before you can talk about your problem makes therapy harder than it needs to be.

At Co & Associates in Milton, Sahar Majeed offers psychotherapy and counselling in Urdu, as well as English, Hindi and Punjabi. You're welcome to use whichever language feels natural, and to move between Urdu and English in the same conversation.

Meet Sahar Majeed, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)

Sahar holds a master's degree in Clinical Psychology and is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. Over the past six years she has supported children, adolescents and adults from many backgrounds. She believes clients deserve a space where they don't have to explain their culture, identity or lived experience twice.

Her approach is collaborative and culturally responsive. Depending on your goals, she draws on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills and mindfulness-based strategies.

  • Self-esteem and emotional regulation

Family, faith and two cultures

Many people we see are balancing family expectations with their own needs: caring for parents, pressure around marriage, education or career, or raising children between two cultures. Others carry worries they've never felt able to share because of stigma around mental health. In therapy you can talk about all of this without having to defend your family or your values, and your faith is welcome in the room if it matters to you.

Parents are often part of the work when Sahar sees children and teens. She can meet with parents in Urdu while working with a child in English, so everyone understands the plan.

In person in Milton or online

Sahar sees clients at our office at 243 Main St E in Milton, and virtually anywhere in Ontario. She works with children aged five and older, teens and adults.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I mix Urdu and English in my sessions?

Yes. Many clients move between Urdu and English depending on what they're talking about. Use whatever words feel most natural to you.

Will what I share stay private from my family and community?

Yes. Everything you share is confidential and protected under Ontario's privacy law for health information (PHIPA). Your therapist won't discuss you with anyone in your family or community without your consent, except in the rare situations the law requires, such as a serious risk to someone's safety, which your therapist will explain at your first session.

Can my child have sessions in English while I speak with the therapist in Urdu?

Yes. Sahar often works with children in the language they're most comfortable in and meets with parents in Urdu, so the whole family can be involved.

Is therapy in Urdu covered by insurance?

Coverage depends on your extended health plan and the type of practitioner it covers. We provide a receipt after each session; check with your plan which credentials it reimburses.
