ADHD & Neurodivergence Support

ADHD & Neurodivergence Support in Milton

Neurodiversity-affirming therapy for children, teens and adults, in Milton and online.

ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence, including autism, are differences in how a brain works, not character flaws. Yet many neurodivergent people spend years being told they're lazy, too sensitive or not trying hard enough. That can leave a mark: anxiety, low self-esteem, burnout, and the exhausting work of masking.

Our therapists offer neurodiversity-affirming therapy in Milton and online. The aim isn't to make anyone 'less ADHD' or 'less autistic'. It's to understand how you or your child are wired, reduce shame, and build strategies and environments that actually fit.

What we can help with

  • Understanding a new or long-suspected ADHD or autism diagnosis
  • Emotional regulation, big feelings and meltdowns
  • Focus, organisation and follow-through, without shame
  • Anxiety, low mood and burnout that often come with masking
  • Self-esteem and identity as a neurodivergent adult
  • Relationships, including partners where one or both are neurodivergent
  • Supporting a neurodivergent child at home and at school

Support for children, teens and adults

For children, sessions are often play-based. Our team includes a Certified AutPlay® Provider, and parents and caregivers are part of the process so strategies carry over into daily life. Teens get their own space to talk about school, friendships and who they are becoming.

For adults, therapy often focuses on making sense of the past, letting go of years of self-criticism and building systems that work with your brain. Approaches may include CBT, emotion-focused therapy, mindfulness and practical coaching-style strategies.

Some families also explore NeurOptimal® neurofeedback, offered at our Milton office, as a complement to therapy.

What sessions can look like

Therapy for neurodivergent clients is practical and flexible. Sessions may include visual tools, movement breaks, written summaries, or shorter check-ins, depending on what works for you. Your therapist will ask how you prefer to communicate and adjust, rather than expecting you to adapt to a standard format.

For adults, early sessions often explore your history: how school, work and relationships felt, what you were told about yourself, and what strategies you've already tried. Many people describe relief at finally understanding why some things have always felt harder. From there, the work turns to what you want to change, whether that's managing overwhelm, building routines, setting boundaries, or reducing burnout from years of masking.

For parents, sessions can focus on understanding your child's sensory and emotional needs, responding to meltdowns, and working with your child's school. Parents of neurodivergent children often carry a lot on their own, and making space for your own wellbeing is part of the support.

A note on diagnosis

Our therapists provide therapy and support; they do not diagnose ADHD or autism. In Ontario, those assessments are done by physicians, psychiatrists or psychologists. You don't need a diagnosis to work with us, and we're happy to support you before, during or after an assessment.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you diagnose ADHD in Milton?

No. Our Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Social Workers provide therapy and support but do not diagnose ADHD or autism. In Ontario, assessments are done by physicians, psychiatrists or psychologists. You can work with us with or without a diagnosis.

Do you see children with ADHD or autism?

Yes. We see children from age 5 and up, often using play-based approaches, with parents and caregivers involved. Teens and adults are welcome too.

Is ADHD therapy available online?

Yes. Virtual sessions are available anywhere in Ontario. For younger children, in-person sessions at our Milton office are often a better fit, and your therapist can help you decide.

Is it covered by insurance?

Many extended health benefit plans cover sessions with Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Social Workers, and we provide receipts after each session. Check your plan for details.

Can therapy help adults who were diagnosed with ADHD later in life?

Yes. A diagnosis in adulthood often brings relief along with grief or frustration about years of struggling without an explanation. Therapy can help you make sense of your history, ease self-criticism, and build practical strategies for work, home and relationships that suit the way your brain works.

Can neurofeedback help with focus or emotional regulation?

Some families and adults choose NeurOptimal® neurofeedback alongside therapy. It is a non-invasive form of brain training and does not diagnose or treat any condition. Experiences vary from person to person, and we're happy to talk through whether it might be a fit for you.
