Overview

Personalized Individual Counselling

Our Individual Counselling Sessions provide a supportive, confidential space to explore life's challenges, deepen self-understanding, and build practical tools for emotional and mental well-being.

Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, navigating relationship dynamics, or seeking personal growth, therapy offers the opportunity to slow down and focus on what matters most to you.

Working collaboratively with one of our Associate Psychotherapists, sessions are tailored to your unique experiences, goals, and pace. Our clinicians use evidence-informed, client-centred approaches rooted in compassion, curiosity, and respect — helping you make sense of your emotions, strengthen coping skills, and work toward meaningful change.

Sessions are 50 minutes in length and operate on a fee-for-service model. Therapy is provided in a non-judgmental environment where you can show up as you are and be met with care, understanding, and professional support.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions About Individual Counselling

How do I know if individual counselling is right for me?

Individual counselling can benefit anyone experiencing emotional distress, life transitions, relationship challenges, or a desire for personal growth. You don't need a diagnosis or crisis to start therapy — many people begin simply because they want support in navigating life more effectively. If you're unsure, a free 15-minute consultation can help you determine if therapy is a good fit.

What happens in a first therapy session?

Your first session is an opportunity to share what brings you to therapy, discuss your goals, and get a sense of your therapist's approach. There's no pressure to share everything at once. Your therapist will ask questions to understand your situation and begin building a collaborative plan. Many clients feel a sense of relief simply from being heard in a non-judgmental space.

How long does individual therapy typically take?

The duration of therapy varies depending on your goals, the complexity of what you're working through, and your pace. Some clients benefit from short-term therapy (6-12 sessions) focused on a specific concern, while others prefer longer-term support for deeper exploration. Your therapist will check in regularly about your progress and adjust the approach as needed.

Is individual counselling covered by insurance in Ontario?

Many extended health benefit plans in Ontario cover services provided by Registered Psychotherapists (RP) and Registered Social Workers (RSW). We provide official receipts after each session that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. We recommend checking your specific plan for coverage details, including any annual limits or session caps.

What therapeutic approaches do your therapists use?

Our therapists draw from a range of evidence-informed approaches tailored to your unique needs, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), psychodynamic therapy, somatic approaches, mindfulness-based interventions, and narrative therapy. Your therapist will discuss their approach with you and adjust based on what resonates.

What is CBT, and do you offer it in Milton?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-informed approach that looks at how thoughts, feelings and actions affect each other. Several of our therapists are trained in CBT and offer it in person in Milton and virtually across Ontario. Your therapist will discuss whether CBT, or a combination of approaches, fits your goals.

Is there a more affordable option for therapy in Milton?

Sessions with our Registered Psychotherapists and Registered Social Workers are often covered by extended health benefits, and we provide receipts for every session. Our supervised student therapist, Omniya Ali, offers reduced-rate sessions for children, teens and parents. Ask us about current reduced rates and other options.
