Anxiety Therapy in Milton, Ontario
Support for worry, overthinking and panic, in person in Milton or virtually across Ontario.
Anxiety is one of the most common reasons people in Milton reach out to us. For some it shows up as constant worry or a mind that won't switch off at night. For others it's a racing heart before meetings, avoiding phone calls, or a tight feeling in the chest that seems to come from nowhere. Many people we see are high-functioning on the outside and exhausted on the inside.
Anxiety is not a personal failing. It is your nervous system trying to keep you safe, sometimes working harder than the situation calls for. Therapy offers a space to understand what keeps that cycle going and to practise new ways of responding, at a pace that feels manageable.
Signs anxiety may be affecting your life
- Worrying most days, often about many different things
- Overthinking conversations, decisions or what others think of you
- Trouble falling or staying asleep because your mind keeps going
- Physical symptoms: tension, headaches, stomach upset, a racing heart
- Panic attacks, or fear of having another one
- Avoiding places, people or tasks that bring the anxiety on
- Feeling on edge, irritable or unable to relax even when things are calm
How anxiety therapy works at Co & Associates
Your first sessions focus on understanding your experience: when anxiety shows up, what it feels like in your body, what you've already tried, and what you want to be different. From there, you and your therapist build a plan together.
Several of our therapists use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which looks at the links between anxious thoughts, physical sensations and the things we do to cope, such as avoidance or reassurance-seeking. Others draw on mindfulness, emotion-focused therapy, self-compassion and acceptance-based approaches. Many clients benefit from a combination, and your therapist will explain their approach and adjust it to what works for you.
Sessions also make room for what sits underneath the anxiety, such as perfectionism, burnout, past experiences or relationship stress, so the work isn't only about managing symptoms.
What you can work on
Goals are set together and revisited as things change. People often want to sleep better, stop avoiding situations that matter to them, manage panic when it starts, quiet the inner critic, or feel less on edge at work and at home. Your therapist will help you notice early signs that anxiety is building and practise responses you can use in the moment, between sessions as well as in them.
