By Garion Sparks-Austin, BSW, RSW — Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist

When I founded Co & Associates, my vision was never simply to build a successful psychotherapy practice.
The vision was to build something that would continue to make a difference long after any one of us is gone.
To build a place where people experience belonging.
A place where they feel seen, heard, and safe enough to be fully themselves.
A place that reminds every person who walks through our doors that they are worthy—not because of what they have achieved, but simply because they are human.
That belief has become the foundation of everything we do.
We believe every person deserves compassion.
We believe healing happens in relationships where people feel emotionally safe.
We believe our struggles, grief, fears, resilience, and healing are not signs that we are broken—they are part of what makes us beautifully human.
These values shape far more than the therapy we provide.
They shape how we lead, how we support one another as colleagues, how we mentor future clinicians, and how we serve the communities that place their trust in us.
My leadership philosophy reflects these beliefs:
Lead with integrity before profit.
Build strong systems before pursuing scale.
Protect and invest in people, because people create exceptional care.
Steward resources responsibly so we can continue serving our community for years to come.
Choose growth over ego.
Make decisions from clarity, purpose, and compassion.
Strive to leave every person—client, therapist, student, colleague, or community partner—stronger than when they arrived.
Success has never been defined solely by revenue, expansion, or recognition.
Success is measured in quieter, more meaningful ways.
A client who rediscovers hope.
A child who learns they are safe.
A couple who reconnects.
A family that begins communicating differently.
A therapist who grows into a confident, compassionate clinician.
A community made healthier because more people have access to exceptional mental health care.
These moments may never make headlines, but they create ripples that extend through families, workplaces, schools, and generations.
That is the kind of impact worth striving for.
If, years from now, Co & Associates is remembered as more than a psychotherapy practice—if it is remembered as a place where people felt accepted, supported, and genuinely cared for—then we will know we built something meaningful.
Because the greatest legacy we can leave is not a business.
It is the people who leave us believing they are worthy, carrying that belief into their relationships, their families, and their communities.
If we can help create that kind of ripple effect, then our work will continue long after the therapy session ends.
And to me, that is what legacy is all about.
